How To Soak A Dope

How is the bucket attached to the sign in the “soak a dope” picture (Lumberjack Games, CB Mar/Apr 2012)? I would like to do that at my camp.

--Joe Kelner

The bucket is hinged on a 2x4 and the target is attached to a 2x4. When the target is hit with enough force it swings, knocking the hinged bucket over. For many kids (specifically the population served at Double H), counselors assist by giving it an extra nudge to knock it over.

Camp Fire + SoyNut Butter = Partners

Chicago--The SoyNut Butter Company, a manufacturer of peanut and tree nut-free food products and Camp Fire, a national youth-development organization, are partnering to offer the I.M. Healthy brand of SoyNut Butters and nut-free granola to more than 250,000 children served through Camp Fire programs and camps.

The SoyNut Butter Company is the first and currently only food product endorsed by the national organization. Made with roasted soybeans, the product mimics the taste and texture of peanut butter, contains 25 percent less fat, up to 50 percent less saturated fat, and meets the specific needs of individuals and institutions concerned with food allergies as the spread is peanut, tree nut, gluten, egg and dairy free.

Sing Along

Do Your Ears Hang Low?

How-to: This is an action song!

Lyrics:

Verse 1

Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro? (tug at earlobes; wave hands back & forth)

Can you tie them in a knot, can you tie them in a bow? (tie an invisible knot; tie an invisible bow)

Can you throw them over your shoulder like a continental soldier? (toss something over your shoulder; salute)

Do your ears hang low? (tug at earlobes)

Verse 2

Do your ears stick out, can you waggle them about?

Can you flap them up and down as you fly around the town?

Can you shut them up for sure when you hear an awful bore?

Do your ears stick out?

Verse 3

Do your ears stand high, do they reach up to the sky?

Do they hang down when they’re wet, do they stand up when they’re dry?

Can you signal to your neighbour with the minimum of labour?

Do your ears stand high?

Verse 4

Do your shorts hang low

Do they touch below the knee

Can you pull ‘em up to here and they still go down to there

Can you sit cross-legged and still not feel naked

Do your shorts hang low

Eldorado Completes Largest Rock Climbing Structure

Boulder, Colo.—Eldorado Climbing Walls has completed what the company claims is the world’s largest man-made outdoor rock climbing structure. Part of the Boy Scouts of America’s extreme sports village at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, this climbing facility was unveiled at the 2013 National Jamboree in July.

A total of 60,000 square feet of rock climbing terrain, the climbing facility is divided into two areas: The Rocks and Boulder Cove. All climbing terrain is constructed from Eldorado’s SHOTRock product and entirely hand-sculpted to mimic the local rock styles and climbing features of the New River Gorge.
