Wiffle Ball Facility Hits A Homerun

As a board member, when I first heard the idea, I chuckled and thought to myself that this won't be a much-used facility. Was I ever wrong. As Eric has pointed out, the Thunderdome is a great addition to the camp. The energy that is present during the gatherings at summer camp is tremendous. The commitment of the volunteers and staff to build it was fantastic. To leaders of other camps, never underestimate the ideas from those who are closely involved with the people who use the camp. The Thunderdome is awesome!

A Snack For The Hiking Trails--Teriyaki Jerky


1 pound of lean meat cut into 1/4-inch-thick strips

½ cup teriyaki sauce

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon liquid smoke


Blend all ingredients, except the meat. Place the meat in a bowl, and pour the combined ingredients over the meat. Cover with plastic wrap, and store in a refrigerator overnight. Next remove the meat from the container, and place it in an oven, a smoker or a dehydrator to dry until the jerky bends without breaking. Store the jerky in the freezer in sealable plastic bags.

Camp For All, a retreat facility that works in collaboration with other non-profits to provide life-changing programs for children and adults with challenging illnesses and special needs, has launched a new Web site. Check it out at

K&K Insurance Group announces new enhancements to Leisure Division programs including camps and campgrounds. The enhancements include expanded casualty capacity (up to $25 million), higher property limits and additional coverage provided in the standard package.


Girl Scouts Unveils New National Brand Initiative

The Girl Scouts have debuted a long-term, multichannel brand campaign designed to reacquaint the country with the iconic organization and communicate the power girls have to change the world through Girl Scouting. The campaign, known by the tagline, “What Did You Do Today?” is also aimed at boosting the number of girls and adult volunteers who participate in Girl Scouting annually.

The branding, in the works as since 2004, is composed of a new visual identity, which includes a distinctive trefoil mark, revised color palette, and refreshed logo that was originally created in the 1970s by the designer Saul Bass. In addition, the initiative also includes plans for a 360-degree marketing program that taps the online, place-based and traditional media.

As part of the campaign, Girl Scouts also has developed Spanish-language advertising to target the Hispanic market, one of the few girl populations in the country that is growing.
