Great Fall Giveaway Winners Announced

Parks & Rec Business and Camp Business magazines are proud to announce the winners of the inaugural Great Fall Giveaway!

American Ramp Company (ARC), Percussion Play, 9 Square In The Air, and Blick Arts & Crafts sponsored the giveaway with four prizes—a total of $28,555 in prizes. All Parks & Recreation Departments, Summer Camps, and School Districts in the United States had a chance to enter and win any one of the prizes.

Bike Playground (Skills Course) From ARC

Nicole Burton won a custom-designed Bike Playground Skills Course–a $15,000 value. Burton is the recreation coordinator for the city of Mesquite in Nevada. She and the city will receive features like ladder bridges, rollers, tunnels, and even teeter-totters specifically designed to offer a variety of fun obstacles that safely build cycling confidence. ARC is one of the most diverse action sports park design and construction teams in the world.

“We’re so excited over here because we don’t have anything like this in our community, and we can’t wait to get it started. Years ago when I was a kid, we had a skatepark here in town, but they ended up pulling it out to put in a synthetic soccer field,” Burton said. “My boy, who’s 13, is really interested in this sort of thing, and just a couple of months ago the local Boy Scout group requested the city council put in something like this, and I ended up winning this!”

Soprano Quartet Ensemble From Percussion Play

Fionna Scott of Camp Henry in Michigan has won the Soprano Quartet Ensemble which includes a Cadenza, a Small Babel Drum, Soprano Pentatonic Freechimes, and a pair of medium Congas—altogether valued at $7,555. The set of outdoor musical instruments aims to make every season a concerto of fun. Percussion Play is a creative outdoor musical instrument manufacturer, determined to add harmony, soul, and energy to inclusive and accessible outdoor play environments across the world.

“Initially, I simply hoped for kids to have fun with it. After talking to Robin from Percussion Play, I see it as a more meaningful addition to our camp program,” Scott said. “The Percussion Play pieces give everyone the opportunity to make music in a low-stakes setting where no musical ‘talent’ is required or expected, rather fun and making sound are the expectations. At Camp Henry, we aim to have encouragement outweigh criticism, to give everyone opportunities to try something new … I believe the Percussion Play Ensemble will provide another avenue for guests to have those experiences.”

9 Square in the Air, Playground Edition

Lance Kraft of Camp Berry Ranger has won a Playground Edition of 9 Square in the Air—it combines 4-square with volleyball to create an incredibly fun and compelling game for all ages. The playground edition is a permanent structure valued at $5,500. The product is the creation of Steve Otey of St. Louis, Mo. and it is meant to help kids better interact with each other.

Blick Arts & Crafts

Robyn Hokenhull, won the Blick Arts & Crafts Lesson Plan Kit. The Art Room Favorites Kit prize, a $500 value, is geared for a wide variety of age and skill levels with the goal of supporting those "light bulb" moments when ideas ignite and creative juices start to flow. Hokenhull is the Senior Recreation Supervisor for the city of Ontario, Calif. They’ll use the kit to implement any of the hundreds of Blick Lesson Plans in their community.

Congratulations to all of our winners and thanks to everyone who participated!
