Holiday Magic

We woke up yesterday to snow. It started slowly and by the time we made breakfast and jumped in the car for the ride to school, it was absolutely dumping. The girls were excited—enthralled by the magic of the first snowfall and already dreaming of skiing the mountains around town.

As they got out of the car at school, one of them told me, “We need to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie tonight.”

I smiled.

“You bet. The sappier the better!”

As I drove home, the glow of the streetlights and neon from local businesses lit up the falling snow. It was beautiful, so beautiful I had to stop and snap a picture. Before I started moving, I texted the photo and a “Good Morning from McCall” to my family spread out around the globe.

My phone pinged with incoming messages the rest of the way home and by the time I had a chance to look, I found I’d heard back from nearly everybody. I grabbed my coffee, spent a few moments shooting back quick responses, and jumped into my morning routine with a smile in my heart.

It was a great start to the day and a great start to the holiday season.

I hope this issue makes you similarly happy. I’m not naïve enough to think it’s part of the start of your holiday traditions, but I do hope it offers one of those nice “holiday” moments—a time when you can grab a cup of your favorite beverage and sit down to enjoy a moment of peace and relaxation.

As usual, I’m very happy with this month’s effort. We always try to take some chances in the last issue of the year—sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Let us know if you think we hit the mark.

Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
