This-N-That

An Offseason Maintenance Checklist

Facility maintenance is a key part in keeping camps fun, functional, and safe for everyone. Performing proper maintenance on camp vehicles is just as important, and the offseason is a great time to evaluate vehicle health and perform preventive-maintenance tasks to avoid unexpected breakdowns. From groundskeeping equipment to recreational vehicles, this checklist will help ensure the camp’s assets are running smoothly during peak season.

  1. Perform a 10-point inspection. These inspections help catch issues like fluid leaks, wiper blade wear, inoperable lighting, engine fault codes, and tire wear and underinflation.

  2. Check the battery. Keep an eye out for issues like battery post and terminal corrosion, loose terminals, cable damage, low charge, and bulging.

  3. Look at belts and hoses. Make sure belts aren’t loose or frayed. Check hoses for bulging and wear. Hoses in good condition should be firm when you squeeze them.

  4. Consider mileage. Whether it’s replacing brakes or getting an oil change and tire rotation, if a vehicle is at or close to the manufacturer’s recommended service interval, go ahead and knock it out.
